Big changes are coming to Hallmark+ in 2025. After just a few months since launching, the platform is making some adjustments to its strategy. Initially, Hallmark+ was planned to show separate content from the Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery Channel, but that’s all about to change.
Starting in 2025, all new Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Mystery original movies will be available to stream on Hallmark+ the day after they air on TV, as Variety reports.
To prepare for this shift, Hallmark added a dozen new holiday movies on December 17, and another 24 are scheduled for December 20. This gives Hallmark+ members access to over 40 holiday movies, including all the 2024 holiday content from Hallmark’s linear networks.
Right now, Hallmark has a deal with Peacock, which means movies from the ‘Countdown to Christmas’ event are available for streaming three days after airing. That’s why a movie like Trading Up Christmas (which airs December 19) won’t be available on Hallmark+ yet.
Back in July, Hallmark’s EVP of programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly, told Variety that the ‘Countdown to Christmas’ event would stay exclusive to TV and that content on the app would be separate. But now, that approach is changing, with more of the same content showing up on both the app and TV.
For example, some of the movies from this year’s holiday lineup are already available on Hallmark+. The changes at Hallmark Media go beyond just streaming.
For example, in November, they announced that The Way Home would move to the streaming platform for its third season, rather than airing on the network. After receiving feedback, they reversed that decision and will air the season on the network, with episodes available the next day on Hallmark+.
On December 17, Hallmark+ added 12 new holiday movies, including Following Yonder Star, The Christmas Quest, Santa Tell Me, Holiday Crashers, Five Gold Rings, A Reason for the Season, All I Need for Christmas, Jingle Bell Run, Sugarplummed, Private Princess Christmas, Scouting For Christmas, and Debbie Macomber’s Joyful Mrs. Miracle.
Then, starting December 20, 24 new movies will join the streaming service: Trading Up Christmas, The Santa Class, Hanukkah on the Rocks, Leah’s Perfect Gift, A Dance in the Snow, The Finnish Line, Believe in Christmas, A ’90s Christmas, Deck the Walls, Christmas Under the Lights, To Have and To Holiday, Christmas on Call, A Novel Noel, Christmas with the Singhs, ‘Tis the Season to Be Irish, Trivia at St. Nick’s, Holiday Mismatch, Our Holiday Story, A Carol for Two, My Sweet Austrian Holiday, The 5-Year Christmas Party, The Christmas Charade, This Time Each Year, and ‘Twas the Date Before Christmas.
Hallmark+ is available with two membership plans: $7.99 per month or $79.99 annually. The service has been updating quickly in response to how viewers are interacting with it, offering more content that was previously only available on TV.
It seems like Hallmark is trying to find the right balance between streaming and its traditional linear network, but fans are definitely in for a more accessible way to enjoy their favorite holiday films starting next year.
