Denis Villeneuve recently joined a Q&A with students at Concordia University’s film school in Montreal, where he shrugged off Quentin Tarantino’s comments about refusing to watch “Dune” and its sequel.

Tarantino, known for “Pulp Fiction,” said he’s not interested in watching Villeneuve’s “Dune” movies since he already knew the story from David Lynch’s earlier version.

I don’t care,” Villeneuve replied, sparking laughter in the room. “I agree with him on not recycling old ideas, but what I did wasn’t a remake—it’s a book adaptation. To me, it’s something original.” Villeneuve added, “But we are very different people.”

Tarantino mentioned his lack of interest in “Dune: Part Two” while speaking on “The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast.” He explained that he’d seen Lynch’s “Dune” a couple of times and didn’t need to revisit that story. “I don’t need to see spice worms again,” he joked.

Tarantino also expressed frustration with remakes in general, explaining, “People ask if I’ve seen ‘Dune,’ ‘Ripley,’ or ‘Shōgun.’ I’m not interested because I’ve already seen these stories done before.”

Villeneuve has been promoting “Dune: Part Two” as the Oscar season approaches, with directors like Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg praising his work.

Spielberg told Villeneuve that he’s among the few directors who create new worlds, comparing him to visionaries like Kubrick, Disney, and George Lucas. Spielberg added, “You’ve made one of the most brilliant sci-fi films I’ve ever seen.”
