Mahershala Ali to Star as Blade Despite Production Delays, Kevin Feige Confirms

Marvel’s anticipated reboot of ‘Blade’ with Mahershala Ali in the lead role has faced its share of hurdles, Kevin Feige, the MCU chief, assured fans that the project is still on track.

Despite a series of delays and directorial changes, Feige remains committed to bringing this beloved character back to the big screen.

“We’re committed to Blade. We love the character and Mahershala’s vision of him. Rest assured, we always update our audience when we shift directions or are figuring out how a project fits into our schedule,” Feige explained.

Originally announced in 2019, ‘Blade’ has been postponed multiple times, even being pulled from Marvel’s release calendar.

The project has seen significant changes, including multiple script rewrites and changes in key production staff.

It lost its director, Yann Demange, due to creative differences with Ali, marking the second time the film has been left without a director.

Before Demange, director Bassim Tariq had exited the project, and actor Aaron Pierre was also removed from the cast.

However, the film still features Mia Goth and the legendary Delroy Lindo alongside Ali. The screenplay has undergone several revisions, including one by Beau DeMayo of ‘X-Men 97’, which explored a storyline set in the 1920s addressing slavery. The latest script was in the hands of Eric Pearson.

Blade, a half-vampire, half-human vampire hunter, was first brought to cinematic life by Wesley Snipes in the early 2000s before the advent of the MCU.

Snipes’ portrayal was well-received, making the films action fan favorites, and he even returned to the role for a cameo in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, famously saying, “there has only been one Blade, there will only be one Blade.”

As of now, there is no new release date set for the ‘Blade’ reboot, leaving fans eagerly waiting for any updates on when they can see Ali take on this iconic role.
