Lionsgate is bringing a new psychological thriller to theaters just in time for Christmas 2025. The Housemaid, based on Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel, will hit the big screen on December 25. It’s already getting attention for its impressive cast and gripping storyline.

Sydney Sweeney stars as Millie, a young woman trying to rebuild her life by taking a job as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew. But Millie’s fresh start takes a dark turn when she uncovers dangerous secrets about her employers. Michele Morrone (365 Days) is also in the cast, playing a yet-to-be-revealed role.

The movie is directed by Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Bridesmaids) with a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine. Feig, along with Todd Lieberman, Laura Fischer, and Carly Kleinbart Elter, is producing the film. Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young are on board as executive producers.

Lionsgate plans to release The Housemaid alongside big holiday blockbusters like James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash and Paramount’s The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants. Despite the competition, the studio believes the movie’s thrilling, character-driven story will appeal to female audiences during the holiday season.

Freida McFadden’s novel, published in 2022, became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller, selling over a million copies and inspiring sequels like The Housemaid’s Secret.

Erin Westerman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president, praised the cast, calling Sweeney and Seyfried “perfect” for their roles, thanks to their ability to portray complex and mysterious characters.

With a proven cast, an experienced director, and a popular source material, Lionsgate hopes The Housemaid will stand out during the busy holiday release window, delivering the same suspense and drama that made the book a favorite with readers.
