‘Gladiator II’: Rotten Tomatoes Score and First Reactions Are Finally Here!
Join us on Reddit for the latest Marvel & DC news!
The historical epic Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, is regarded as a modern cinematic classic. The film is regarded as one of the greatest films of all time and became a literal and symbolic part of history because of the outstanding performances of Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe. But no one really thought that a sequel would be made.
And yet, here we are. Gladiator II, which is scheduled for release on November 14, 2024, globally and on November 22, 2024, in the United States, is here, more than 20 years after the original film.
Oscar-nominee Paul Mescal is set to star in the movie and will play Lucius Verus, a character from the previous film, alongside Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington, who make up the film’s outstanding main cast.
Several trailers have been released so far, and the earliest reactions have praised the movie. Now, the first official reactions are in, and we are bringing you everything you need to know about the movie!
First of all, we are going to start off with the Rotten Tomatoes score. The official verdict is not in yet, but based on the first available reviews, the movie is going to be quite impressive:
The first reviews are in for #GladiatorII – currently it's Fresh at 84% on the Tomatometer, with 45 reviews: https://t.co/iVTBobJUe2 pic.twitter.com/UlLaoGV0IG

And while the score will certainly change as more reviews arrive, a starting Fresh rating of 84% is certainly great, and the fans have something to look forward to. We don’t know how this is going to influence the box office, but it does seem that Gladiator II will be a strong hit and could, as predicted, be a major Oscar contender next year, which would be a triumphant comeback for Scott after a series of failed projects (like Napoleon and House of Gucci).
Now that we have given you a general outline, here are some of the individual reactions by our colleagues:
Ridley Scott's 'GLADIATOR 2' is an epic heart-pounding spectacle elevated by the godly performances of Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington.

Ridley Scott returns to the Colosseum and #GladiatorII has about everything you'd expect from a follow-up film. The movie has epic arena fights, lush visuals, and an absolutely wild Denzel Washington performance. ⚔

"Gladiator 2" is "about as good a movie as we could've expected it to be," writes @OwenGleiberman.

"It's a solid piece of neoclassical popcorn, with Denzel Washington taking command as the villain, but it's ultimately a mere shadow of 'Gladiator.'" https://t.co/CfnTjDkPav
Gladiator 2 is exceptional and brutal. It’s also the year’s best film. Denzel is diabolical. Mescal is masterful. The violence is breathtaking but necessary for the story. Meet your Best Picture for 2024. #Gladiator2 pic.twitter.com/E19L6zO2kN

#Gladiator2 is a really solid sequel to an absolute classic. Ridley Scott came back to the coliseum swinging🔥 while the film is bigger & bloodier it never looses itself in the spectacle. Paul Mescal is great but Denzel steals the show. Count me as very entertained🗡️🛡️🦏🦈 pic.twitter.com/n6LWSTdLzO

“‘GLADIATOR 2’ is the must-see movie of the year, and the only way to experience this beautifully crafted piece of art by Ridley Scott that’s packed with groundbreaking, career-defining performances, is to watch it in IMAX.”
