Upcoming Biblical Animated Film ‘Light of the World’ Releases First Teaser Trailer

In an era where CGI animation dominates the market, it is refreshing to see something different, even if it’s not something particularly new. The fans loved what Dreamworks did with The Puss in Boots 2 and The Wild Robot, while the recently released Over the Garden Wall special reminded us how animated movies can be done without a lot of CGI.

In light of this, a group of animators is currently working on a project titled Light of the World, which is set to hit theaters next summer. The project is funded by The Salvation Poem Project, and it involves former Disney employees.

The movie is a 2D animated Biblical story of Jesus told through the eyes of his teenage disciple, John, who is the principal character of the movie. The Salvation Poem Project has recently released the first teaser for the upcoming movie, which shows what it will all look like next summer.

In case you don’t know, The Salvation Poem Project is a religious organization that aims to spread the Word through modern methods. They are working on the animated movie we mentioned above, as well as on a video game at the moment, so you can imagine that they are serious about what they are doing. Their “About Us” page reveals the following:

The Salvation Poem is a 6-line song formatted as a sinner’s prayer that shares the basics of the Gospel in a simple, effective, and memorable way. Ministries, missionaries, and many others have used The Salvation Poem to share the Gospel with hundreds of millions around the globe in many languages.

Now, we build globally scalable, free media tools. We’re currently working on a 2D animated film, a game, and a set of courses. We work with others to deliver those tools into the hands of the people who need them most. We want everyone to have the opportunity to know Jesus and to choose for themselves whether to follow him. We are a team of artists who are obsessed with Jesus, and this is our contribution to the Great Commission.

Continuing, we can now focus on the movie. The movie is going to be a 2D animated film. The people behind the project are executive producer Matt McPherson, producer Brennan McPherson, directors John Schafer (CBN’s Superbook) and Tom Bancroft (Disney’s Beauty And The Beast, The Lion King, and Mulan), and animation director Tony Bancroft (Mulan, Mary Poppins Returns and Space Jam: A New Legacy).

The plot of the movie reveals the following, as per the official website:

It’s 30 AD and everyone is expectantly awaiting the coming Messiah. While Jesus isn’t exactly what they imagined, there is something special about this man. Soon, John, James, Andrew, Peter, and others begin to follow Jesus on an unexpected adventure.

This beautifully animated story of Jesus is told through the eyes of his beloved young friend, the Apostle John. From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry through his crucifixion and resurrection, LIGHT OF THE WORLD powerfully illustrates how Jesus of Nazareth changed the world forever and still changes lives today! LIGHT OF THE WORLD releases in theaters, Summer 2025.
