James Gunn’s Superman is one of the most talked-about superhero movies since its announcement. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The film plans to reboot Superman’s story after the struggles of the old DCEU and launch the new DC Universe in a fresh way.
Previously called Superman: Legacy, the movie shows Superman trying to balance his Kryptonian roots with his life as Clark Kent in Smallville, while staying true to his classic values in today’s world. Gunn has confirmed it won’t be an origin story.
Yesterday, the teaser trailer for the movie dropped, featuring many familiar characters alongside the main trio. Fans got a glimpse of Mr. Terrific, Krypto, Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Kaiju, Papa Kent, and other supporting characters.
The teaser makes it clear that Gunn is aiming for a classic take on Superman while exploring his humanity and vulnerabilities. It also delivers comic-accurate depictions of the characters—yes, including Guy Gardner’s iconic haircut.
Fans are thrilled with what they saw, but the theatrical version of the teaser includes a few extra scenes. These show a quick look at Ultraman, more of Mr. Terrific, a tense scene with Lex Luthor, and a glimpse of The Engineer.
Some of these extra scenes were leaked on Twitter after the theatrical trailer played before the latest Sonic movie.
After the teaser was released, Gunn shared some details about the movie. He confirmed it would be under 2.5 hours long and talked about the possibility of post-credits scenes. He also addressed whether those scenes would hint at future installments.
If you look at my credits scenes on the Marvel movies, the one time I f***ed myself was when I put Adam Warlock in because then I’m like, ‘Oh sh*t, now I gotta put Adam Warlock in the next movie; which actually was a pain in the ass
So, I’m not gonna set up whole universes with end credits scenes,I love giving audiences who sit through all of the credits end credits scenes but I’d rather it be something that’s fun for fans and not necessarily, ‘Hey, we’re setting up the whole next part of the universe!’
Gunn’s comment about Adam Warlock isn’t too surprising since the character felt forced into the story and hasn’t been used effectively yet, even though he’s one of the most powerful heroes in Marvel Comics.
