At Star Wars Celebration 2023, a new Star Wars movie focused on Rey was announced. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the film will follow Rey as she works to rebuild the Jedi Order after The Rise of Skywalker.

The script was first written by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson but was later taken over by Steven Knight. Recently, it was announced that Knight has left the project.

The story takes place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker and explores a galaxy in chaos after the war and the fall of the First Order. The Jedi are struggling, and Rey is working to keep her promise to Luke by rebuilding the Jedi Order using the ancient books.

It’s still unclear if this movie will lead to a new trilogy, but recent reports suggest that could be the case. A new trilogy of Star Wars films is in development, and some sources say these could be Episodes 10-12 of the Skywalker Saga, which started with George Lucas’s original 1977 film.

Lucasfilm has teamed up with Simon Kinberg, who has worked with them before. He co-created the Emmy-nominated series Star Wars Rebels and helped with The Force Awakens in 2015, which relaunched the franchise under director J.J. Abrams.

If you’ve followed our previous reports, you might know that fans weren’t happy about Simon Kinberg’s involvement in the new Star Wars movies, or that the films are reportedly going to continue Rey’s story.

Insiders recently told The Hollywood Reporter that Rey is still the most valuable character for the franchise and the key to its future.

Lucasfilm agreed to Simon Kinberg’s idea for multiple stories to keep Rey’s character moving forward. This has led to rumors that different filmmakers are fighting for control over characters like Rey. Daisy Ridley has said she’s excited to return to a character she knows well, but in a new phase of her life.

While insiders deny there’s a “battle” over Rey, they confirm that Lucasfilm is discussing her future. One source said Rey is the most important character for Star Wars on the big screen right now. Rey’s role is expected in several upcoming movies, but which ones are still unclear.

Sources say Rey will appear in several upcoming Star Wars movies, but it’s unclear which ones.

Star Wars movie development has faced criticism, with Kathleen Kennedy being blamed for not creating strong new characters since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012.

Many classic characters like Luke, Leia, and Han are either dead or their stories are finished. Rey, created after George Lucas left, is now the only character still important for the big screen.

Most of the new characters and stories they tried to create have failed for various reasons, with The Acolyte being the latest example. It struggled by trying to recreate Anakin’s story with a modern twist. An insider said Star Wars is “running out of ways to create nostalgia.”

You’re being asked to create the new New Testament. And no one can agree on anything and there’s a lot of second guessing about meanings. […]Star Wars is a nostalgia-based enterprise and they are running out of ways to create nostalgia.
