Disney’s plans for a live-action ‘Hercules’ movie have taken a fresh turn, now focusing on the notorious villain Hades, potentially even renaming the film after him.
This news comes from Daniel Richtman via Toonado.com, detailing a major overhaul in the storyline to give fans a new perspective by spotlighting the underworld ruler.
The project initially announced last year, has ‘Aladdin’ director Guy Ritchie and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ directors Joe and Anthony Russo as the production team.
While Ritchie’s continued involvement remains unconfirmed, the Russos are eagerly on board.
They shared in a recent interview their intention to steer clear of a direct remake, preferring to inject fresh elements while drawing inspiration from the beloved original.
Casting has been the subject of much speculation with Taron Edgerton and Ariana Grande initially mentioned for Hercules and Meg.
Pop star Dua Lipa has also been rumored to be in the running for Meg. However, casting for Hades remains open, with no names yet floated for the role originally voiced by James Woods.
Joe Russo emphasized their creative approach, stating, ‘We’re not interested in just retelling the story you can find in the animation. Our Marvel work avoided literal translations of the comics; this will be no different. We plan to bring something new to ‘Hercules,’ inspired by the classic, but distinctively unique.’
This pivot to focus on Hades could indeed offer a compelling twist to the ‘Hercules’ saga, as fans wait eagerly for more details to emerge.
