Ava Starr, or Ghost, gained the ability to turn intangible and create powerful energy after a quantum accident that killed her parents. S.H.I.E.L.D. recruited her as a secret agent when she was young. Later, she found out she was dying because she lacked the quantum energy she was using without meaning to.

When she learned about a Quantum Tunnel built by Hank Pym, she tried to absorb energy from the Quantum Realm to heal herself. However, this conflicted with Pym’s plan to rescue Janet van Dyne, who needed that same energy to survive.

Ava tried to steal the lab, which led to a fight with Ant-Man and Wasp. Afterward, Janet gave her some of her quantum energy, which helped ease Ava’s condition. She then went into hiding with Bill Foster. Ava’s character is now on a path to “redemption” in the MCU, and she will soon play a key role in the new team of anti-heroes, Thunderbolts.

Yes, Hannah John-Kamen will return as Ghost in Thunderbolts*, and from first-look photos and teasers, she’ll be wearing a new suit. The actress also shared that fans can expect exciting character development. In a recent interview with Manilla Times, Kamen revealed that Ghost’s powers are now stable, and we’ll see a completely different version of her.

The last time you saw her, she was volcanic. She was flickering to death and she was in pain. I would describe her as an open nerve. She was dealing with this battle. You found her in this coping mechanism of constant survival whereas now she has control of that. With that, there’s a calm, and there’s a decisiveness, and there’s a powerful breath and beat in that. So yes, you’ll see a different Ghost.

Kamen isn’t the only one talking about her powers in this context. David Harbour recently mentioned that their superpowers will be closely connected to their character arcs in a unique way.

I think there’s something about this movie, about superpowers and superheroes that our powers are inextricably linked to how broken we are. And that our powers only thrive in relationship to each other, that in isolation they can be a curse.
